West End Women’s Heritage Walk

Our sell out women’s heritage walks, led by our volunteer tour guides, show Glasgow’s neighbourhoods in a new light, making visible the often hidden and overlooked contributions women have made to the city. Pick up a Stamp as you Stomp loyalty card, do all 6 of our walks and get a very special Women Make history treat! Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.

Glasgow’s West End: the home of rousing radicals, tireless teachers and steadfast suffragettes! Our West End Women’s Heritage Walk shares the story of remarkable, unsung women; a story of protesting, rallying activists, and of the rent strikers and “wild women” who built this part of Glasgow and whose contribution can still be felt today. Hear about formidable Rachel Johnston, a pipe-smoking labourer and special constable, and pay a visit to the Suffrage Oak on Kelvin Way.

Meeting Point: We meet outside the Kelvingrove Museum on Argyle Street. Please do not arrive without having booked your place in advance as tour guides are not able to take payment, and the walk may be full. Bookings close on the Friday prior to the women’s heritage walk.
Booking
Booking is now closed. This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
The week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks.
