Vote 100: Activists

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act, GWL is developing an animated web resource highlighting the forgotten heroines who have campaigned for women across the world to have the right to vote.

Women have been involved in campaigns for equality and the right to vote in countries across the world.

Doria Shafik

Doria Shafik was one of the principal leaders of the women’s liberation movement in Egypt in the mid-1940s. She founded an Egyptian feminist organization called The Daughters of The Nile, dedicated to educating and organizing working women of all classes.
