Grey Hen Press Story Cafe Special

A warm welcome back to Grey Hen Press, whose beautiful anthologies showcase the wit and wisdom of older women poets. Dip into two of their new chapbooks on landscape themes, Further than it looks: poems about mountains and Measuring the depths: poems about lakes.  The perfect chance to hear poetry that’s perceptive, witty and informed by what only the years can teach us.

Grey Hen Press, Thursday 28th May, 12.30pm to 2pm, £2/Free

Founded by Joy Howard in 2007, the aim of Grey Hen Press is to showcase the poetry of older women, who can get left behind in the highly competitive poetry world of today. While older women may not have a lot of time left to establish themselves, they have a lot to say, and say it with style. We want to get those voices heard!

Grey Hen Press have published 14 anthologies, which include the work of well-known poets, poets who deserve to be more widely known, and poets for whom this may be a first publication. From small beginnings, there are now over 180 contributing poets to the anthologies.  Something for everyone, even for those who thought they didn’t like poetry!

Be nourished by women’s words over lunchtime as we rediscover the joy of being read to. Our friendly and welcoming Story Cafés take place on Thursday afternoons and you can see all our dates this Spring here.

Booking

As of Wednesday 18th March, Glasgow Women’s Library is closed until further notice. We believe that closing our doors is the best way to slow the spread of Covid-19. We are no longer taking bookings for events in our Spring programme, in the understanding that they may not go ahead. If you can check in at the end of April for updates on our website and social media, or by email, please do so. You can find more information on our response to Covid-19 here.

This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £2 ticket and a Free ticket. If a ticket price of £2 is in any way a barrier to you attending this event please choose a Free ticket. We also offer a Free ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. Please book below or you can call us on 0141 550 2267. If you have booked a place and are no longer able to attend please let us know so that we can make your place available to someone else.
