Story Café Special: Chitra Ramaswamy

Warm up over a cuppa at our Story Café this autumn.

Story Café is on Thursdays 1st September, 15th September to 13th October, 27th October to 10th November, 24th November to 15th December, 12.30pm to 2.30pm

Rediscover the joy of being read to as we explore tales of love, longing and what it is to be human, by the best women writers world-wide. So far this year we’ve been intrigued by strangers on trains, bewitched by selkies and fallen in love with kind-hearted crooks.

When award-winning journalist Chitra Ramaswamy discovered she was pregnant, she longed for a book that went above and beyond a manual. Failing to find one, she wrote her own.  Her funny, fascinating memoir, Expecting, gets to the very heart of the bewildering, thrilling and strange experience that is pregnancy. Chitra takes us on a physical and philosophical journey of pregnancy and birth, paying tribute to writers, artists, places and individual histories along the way. Babies, bumps and all are welcome.

Our Story Café Specials are an intimate way of hearing some of the freshest voices from Scottish writing. Specials this Autumn are: Sue Reid Sexton on Thursday 22nd September, Banned Books Week on Thursday 29th September, Grey Hen Press on Thursday 6th October, Chitra Ramaswamy on Thursday 27th October, and Ethyl Smith on Thursday 24th November. Booking

This event is open to all 16+ (babies and bumps welcome). There is no need to book. This event costs £2 full price and you can pay on the day. We offer subsidised and/or free places for students, people on a low income, unemployed or those in receipt of benefit and Friends of GWL.
