My Wonderful Experience at GWL

My name is Manjit Kaur. I have never done a blog before but I think it will be fine.

I am Indian. I am a qualified nurse from India. I came here approximately 11 months ago. I had no work experience in Glasgow. Before finding this volunteer work I came to Library and just got a library card, at that time I did not know I would volunteer in the library. Then I thought this is good place to build my confidence, gain communication skills and to get experience.

Two months ago I met the volunteer coordinator through my husband. She gave me a placement here. I was quite happy at that time. I started volunteering here.

Today is my fourth week. In the first week I learnt and did filing, after than I learnt how to put information in the database. I helped in setting up the catalogue for the 20th birthday of Glasgow Women’s Library, but missed that party. I wanted to attend that but I could not.

I am more confident than before I started. I learnt a lot from staff; they are very friendly. The volunteer coordinator gives me my weekly work. I am thankful to her because she understood that I am able to do this work. I will keep going to this work as I think I can learn a lot.
