Horties at Forty: Herstories of Campaigning for Peace

This event celebrates 40 years of the Gareloch Horts, a women’s non-violent direct action peace group who have been campaigning and acting for the abolition of nuclear weapons in the UK .

Horties at Forty: Herstories of Campaigning for Peace, Saturday 5th August 2023, 12pm to 4pm, GWL, Free

We will be sharing herstories, displaying our creative methods and offering a short Non-Violent Direct-Action training workshop and an opportunity to plan an NVDA action. This event also marks a weekend of remembrance of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Timetable of activities:

12noon: The celebration will Open with a Welcome to Horties at Forty in our Main Event space

12.30 – 1.30 pm: Followed by Singing workshops with Protest in Harmony

1.30 – 2.30: Nonviolent Direct Action (NVDA) Workshop (Community Room)

2.45 – 3pm: Puppet Theatre (Main Event Space)

3 – 3.30: Letters of resistance to Peace artist and activist Monica Sjöö (Community Room)

3.30 -3.40pm: ABBA performance  (main space)

The day is a drop in and out as you feel and the library will be open for browsing/borrowing.

Accessibility

Glasgow Women’s Library is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to the first floor and the Mezzanine Floor. We have accessible toilets and all the bathrooms are individual closed stalls and are gender neutral. Our larger Events Space is fitted with an induction loop. A portable induction loop is also available.
