‘Lesbian archive under threat of closure’ article

Part of the Lesbian Archive collection.

An article published in the Pink Paper warning that the Lesbian Archive and Information Centre was at risk of closure. The archive (LAIC) was the largest collection of lesbian information and material in the country, dating back to 1916.

In 1994 the building where LAIC was housed, London Women’s Centre, went into private ownership and the Camden Council stopped paying rent. This left the collection at risk unless they could raise £7000. This article in the Pink Papers was seen by staff at Glasgow Women’s Library, who reached out to help and later saved the collection by giving it a new home.
