Established in 2012, the National Museum of Roller Derby (NMRD) is the UK’s first permanent collection of ephemera and memorabilia relating to the sport of Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby. In 2016, to celebrate our new permanent home in Glasgow Women’s Library’s new Bridgeton HQ, we bring you an ‘Object of the Month’ from our ever expanding collections.
We want your old team shirts, flyers, zines and other paraphernalia to illustrate the remarkable development of the sport in the UK. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for future announcements on how to donate items to the Museum.

This sticker displays the Roller Derby team name of Leithal Weapons. As happens so often in Roller Derby, names of players, bouts, and teams draw from both locational references and a pop-culture references. In this particular instance, the team based in the district of Leith draws their name from the popular American buddy cop action comedy film starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, Lethal Weapon.
Puns, such as this one, are often used in Roller Derby and it highlights the sports’ sense of humour, their imagination, and the influence of pop-culture.
Leithal weapons are a team based in Leith, Edinburgh and are in the ARRD (Auld Reekie Roller Derby).
