The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier
Honor Bright, a Quaker, decides to emigrate to America with her sister (who is betrothed to Adam in Ohio).
The characters leap off the page and you empathise with Honor as she tries to keep her beliefs (in opposing slavery) whilst trying to fit in with her new family.
A cracking read with a twist in the tail at the end.
