Summer News!

Hello! I am the librarian covering Wendy’s maternity leave and am delighted to be part of the GWL team. I started volunteering with Wendy in March to help classify the books. This has been an enjoyable task and I aim to keep this task as a priority. We are thinking about a ‘Blue Peter’ style of target totem pole on one of the pillars in the office for every 100 books classified, hoping to make the 4000 mark by the time Wendy returns.

My background is mainly as a librarian/information worker working in diverse settings, such as the Sandyford Library, Glasgow University Library, Ferguslie Park Community Library, East End Community Information Project and the University of Crete (to name but a few…).

I am currently completing the MSc course in Information and Library Studies at Strathclyde University and am doing an exciting dissertation research project with the women’s library on bibliotherapy. GWL is such an impressive place to be, the vibrant buzz of lots of women enjoying learning and working together is something I will relish for the next 7 months or so.

Summer News!

Baby Will is doing well and Wendy is blooming despite only having one good night’s sleep in the past few weeks! We saw them both at a lovely party for the placements and volunteers who were leaving us on Friday the 29th of June. It was a great chance to meet some of the kind women who have given their time here.

As classes are done now until September, we are a wee bit quiet, however, the Creative Writing is ongoing with Ruby McCann on Wednesday mornings and the group artwork with Linneka on Thursday afternoons.

There seems to be a stream of visitors – some new, some old friends, and it is an exciting time to look forward to 3 new members of staff starting very soon!
