Are you aged between 25 – 35 years old? Do you use the contraceptive pill? Or have you used it in the past?

Hello!  I’m Kylie, a volunteer here at Glasgow Women’s Library and also a Gender Studies MSc student who had the wonderful opportunity to rummage around the Family Planning Archive for two months as part of a research project. My project allowed me to get up close to the material and write a subject guide for this most important (and rare) collection which contains everything from IUD medical trial reports to sex advice booklets! As part of the project I also wrote four blog posts to showcase particularly interesting items and themes of the collection.

Further to my work on the family planning archive, I am currently working on a research project that seeks to interview women to explore their experience of the oral contraceptive pill. Your experience with the oral contraceptive pill can be long term use or that you’ve used variety of different methods for differing amounts of time and one of the methods used has been the pill. The interview will include discussing the information provided to you when you were prescribed the pill and your experiences of the pill in relation to your body. If you agree to take part in the study, an interview would involve spending as little or as much time as you are comfortable with talking about your experiences, this will most likely be around 30-45 minutes however there are no strict time requirements.  The interview will be conducted face-to face at Glasgow Women’s Library, however if you are unable to get to the library or are not based in Glasgow, interviews can be conducted at a mutually convenient location or via Skype.

With your involvement I hope to analyse women’s experiences and compare these to the information provided by drug companies and the medical profession in the UK.

  • Duration: Up to 1 hour
  • Location: Glasgow Women’s Library or via Skype
  • All information collected in the interviews will be anonymised
