My work experience at GWL.

This Monday, I started work experience Glasgow Women’s Library, and today is my last day. Throughout the week I got to do a lot of things that really interested me; I have written a couple of posts that are now published on the website, I looked at the archives in the library, and got to see the film March, as well as looking in to some of the other great projects the library does.

I chose to do my work placement here because from a young age I have always loved books and reading, and feminism really interests me. I like learning about feminism all over the world, and love finding new books to read, so the library seemed like a perfect place for me.

During the week I got a chance to write two articles, which was really fun for me because I love writing and one of my reasons for doing work experience here was to expand my writing skills. Another task I got to do which was really interesting was writing about female Scottish female role models, because I got to learn a lot about women in Scotland that I previously didn’t know anything about. I was able to sit and enjoy the story cafe that the library does every thursday. A few of us sat down to eat lunch and listen to a story being read out, as well as some poetry. We got a chance to discuss what we had read about afterword, so I got to hear about a lot of peoples different experiences and their stories.

I don’t want to go back to school now I have experienced what a working is like! I really enjoyed everything I’ve done here, and I look forward to coming back to borrow some books from their collection.
