This half day poetry and creative writing workshop for women is on the theme of Scottish Women’s Aid’s 40th anniversary Speaking Out project. The workshop will explore themes of women writing and women supporting women; exploring our connections through words. The format will include watching and reading poetry, group discussion, as well as writing exercises and the opportunity to share what you have written with the group should you wish, in a friendly atmosphere. If you like feminist poetry, women’s literature, and trying you hand at writing your own poetry, then this workshop is for you!
Nadine Aisha is a feminist poet and activist, whose debut poetry pamphlet Still was published by Appletree Writers in 2016. She is a writer in residence for YWCA Scotland – The Young Women’s Movement, where she has delivered workshops and mentoring for their #feministfest members. She was worked with the Speaking Out project to deliver poetry workshops for survivors of domestic abuse.
No previous creative writing experience required, suitable for beginners. Whilst the focus of the day will be on poetry, attendees are free to write in whichever medium they choose.
Due to the sensitivity of experiences shared and the need to create a safe space, this workshop is for those who identify as women only.
This session will be held in the lecture room.
