Ursula by Maria Firmina dos Reis

Despite the fact that Maria Firmina dos Reis is a huge part of Brazilian literary heritage, only one of her short stories has been translated in to English. Her anti-slavery novel, Ursula (1859), is thought to be one of the first novels written by a Brazilian woman. Here we present an English translation of the synopsis of Ursula.
