Introduce yourself: Hello. My name is Mel Bestel.
Describe your role and what it involves: I started volunteering at the library this summer. Initially I was on the front desk, helping out with the reception and all the duties that go along with that. It was a really good way to get acquainted with how the library works as well as getting to meet everyone. Now I am working with Glasgow based artist, Helen De Main, to help make films about the 21 Revolutions artworks that were acquired by Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art. I’ve made a blog documenting our research and progress and next we move onto filming interviews with the artists. After this project, I hope to continue helping promote the library with any film and media related projects that they have.
Why were you attracted to working at the library?- I was attracted to the library because I think they do essential work in making sure women in the arts are properly represented and their lives and works documented. They are at the forefront of some really exciting work, engaging lots of interesting women from across Scotland. I feel like it’s a great time to join – the new premises opening is only going to help propel the work the library does into bigger spheres.

Describe the Library in one word: Energizing.
