Glasgow Women’s Library has been shaped and nourished by volunteers since its inception in 1991.
Through our Volunteering Programme dozens of volunteers from diverse backgrounds are supported to contribute to our work each year. They enrich the organisation with their ideas, enthusiasm, perspectives, and knowledge, while gaining skills, experience, confidence, wellbeing, community, and connection.
There is no typical GWL volunteer: some are just out of school or still studying, others have time to give in their retirement, some want to share their expertise, while others want to volunteer to acquire or develop skills. All are valued equally and encouraged to find their niche within the organisation.
Volunteers help to grow, care for, and make our collections more accessible. They support the planning and delivery of learning activities. They keep things ticking over through countless actions, big and small. And they are also some of GWL’s biggest champions.

How to Volunteer with GWL
Our Volunteering Programme supports dozens of volunteers each year, aiming to give everyone the training and support they need to allow them to find their place within the organisation, regardless of how much or how little previous experience they have, and whatever their reasons for volunteering.
