Learning is at the heart of Glasgow Women’s Library’s work. We have created spaces and resources where people can discover information and learn in ways that are inspiring, thought-provoking and life-changing.
Commitment to learning is one of our core values. People visit us to discover thought-provoking and interesting materials and perspectives and learn new things through our programmes. Our specialised staff and volunteer team works hard to ensure that our lending and reference library, archive and museum collections spark the imagination and are accessible to regular and one off visitors, audiences, project and event participants. Our collections can be explored through our online catalogues and pathways such as Story Cafés and Open Archive events. We know that many people experience barriers to accessing learning, libraries and museums. Since 2003 we have provided in-house free one to one and group support for women who want to develop their confidence in reading and writing and host weekly ESOL classes for those who want to improve their English speaking skills in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Throughout our history we have involved communities and groups, our volunteers, and students on work placement in hundreds of projects where people learn together and produce resources for others for example; In Her Shoes (a project that involved community research into Hate Crimes), the Responders of Colour group who explored issues of racism in the girls annuals in our collection, and She Settles in the Shields, a ground-breaking oral history project where learners produced an exhibition and book that charted the migration histories of South Asian women in Glasgow.
Our staff are learners themselves and are committed to continual reflection, ongoing research and lifelong learning.

Seeing Things
Seeing Things is designed to give women the opportunity to explore cultural events across Glasgow, such as (but not limited to!) art, music, theatre or comedy, together with friendly and like-minded women. Since the start of 2014, the group has visited art and performance events in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Responders of Colour
Responders of Colour is a creative project that looks at items from the GWL archive from the perspective of women and non-binary people of colour.
