Doria Shafik, 1908-1975
“I am Doria Shafik, Egyptian warrior, poet, mother, and activist. I was one of the principal leaders of the women’s liberation movement in Egypt in the mid-1940s. I founded an Egyptian feminist organization called The Daughters of The Nile, dedicated to educating and organizing working women of all classes. I organised and marched 1500 women to parliament. We stormed in and demanded our rights, which these men had denied us for so long!”
