Glasgow Women’s Library’s National Lifelong Learning project offers a rich, diverse programme of activities, events and courses for women of all ages and backgrounds across Scotland. Supported by and working in partnership with SCVO, BEMIS, CEMVO, Scottish Disability Forum and Inclusion Scotland, the national lifelong learning project is now recruiting for a BME learning development internship:
35 hours per week for 13 weeks (or 17.5 hours per week for 26 weeks);£6.31 per hour
The successful candidate will :
- Research BME communities and organisations which work with BME women across Scotland, and expand GWL’s contact database.
- Establish contact with these organisations/communities and through one-to-one or online contact raise awareness of GWL’s national programme.
- Expand GWL’s online BME resources through assistance in preparation and uploading of existing BME oral history and other resources.
As part of familiarisation with GWL’s learning programme, the intern will also assist GWL staff in delivery of Glasgow based and national BME workshops
Essential skills/qualities:
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, communication and networking skills
- Must be able to travel around Scotland occasionally and able to work occasional weekends and evenings
- Self motivated and flexible approach to work
- Good general IT skills
- Experience of/interest in working with BME communities
Desirable qualities:
- Experience of working in the community
- Ability to communicate in Urdu/Hindi or Punjabi or other language skills which may be useful in working with BME women
- Experience of working with disadvantaged women
- Experience of working with databases
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
APPLICANTS MUST ALSO FULFIL THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- 18–30 YEARS OF AGE AND RESIDENT IN SCOTLAND
- HOLD A SCQF LEVEL 8+ QUALIFICATION (EQUIVALENT TO AN HND, SVQ LEVEL 4, FIRST DEGREE OR ABOVE)
- REGISTERED UNEMPLOYED
