Our ever popular women’s history walking tour of the atmospheric Necropolis digs the dirt on Victorian society, unearths women’s achievements and exhumes the histories of both notorious and forgotten women buried there.
Our guides can’t wait to introduce some of the notorious and forgotten women buried in this atmospheric Victorian cemetery. This is a hilly walk but the views across Glasgow and insights on women’s history are spectacular!
“I loved the informality of the event. It felt very welcoming and accessible.” – Previous walk participant
This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
A week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Should you need to cancel a booking for any reason please see our Women’s Heritage Walks Cancellation Policy. Should the event be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions tickets will be refunded in full.
This walk takes place on tarmac roads and paths around the Necropolis and we also move off the paths onto the grass at one or two stops. There is one stop where steps are used. The Necropolis is on a steep hill and there are no banisters. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions.
Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
