We are proud to host an evening of trans women-focused readings and performance as part of the Topside Press UK and Ireland tour.
Featuring North American trans women writers, Imogen Binnie and Casey Plett, the event on Saturday 21st November from 5pm to 7pm will also include performances by Glasgow-based trans women, a brief Q & A, and an introduction to the Glasgow Women’s Library as well as its trans archive.
Founded in 2011, Topside Press is an independent press focused on trans fiction and based in New York. This tour aims to bring trans writers to the UK and Ireland, to engage in dialogue with their European counterparts, read from their work, and to foster art and community produced by trans individuals.
Topside’s featured writers for the tour are Imogen Binnie and Casey Plett. Binnie is the author of Nevada, the darkly comedic story of a young trans woman struggling with her punk values and her aimless life in general. Imogen Binnie’s writing has been featured in Aorta Magazine, PrettyQueer, and Scotland’s own The Skinny.
Casey Plett is the author of A Safe Girl to Love, a collection of short stories stretching from urban hipster gay bars to rural Mennonite towns, at turns frustrating, sad and charming. She wrote a column on transitioning for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and has contributed to The Walrus, Rookie, and The New York Times, among others.
