Tell Her Story: Remembering the Hidden Victims of Honour-Based Abuse

12th July , 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Free
Closeup of a woman's face, centred on her eyes, in black and white

In partnership with AMINA Muslim Women’s Resource Centre, we are marking National Honour Based Violence Day (July 14th) by hosting a powerful exhibition and event dedicated to remembering the BAME women who have lost their lives to honour based violence, and the hidden victims whose stories have yet to be told.

Ahead of the exhibition, we invite you to anonymously share the story of a woman you know who has experienced honour-based violence. Find out more here about contributing and helping to break the silence surrounding honour-based violence and bring much-needed awareness to this issue.

Join us on Friday, 12th July, for an afternoon of remembrance and reflection:

  • 12 noon: Exhibition opens
  • 2pm: Tea, Samosas, and refreshments; networking
  • 2:30pm to 3:30pm:
    • A powerful monologue by a woman sharing her account of a close friend experiencing Honour Based Abuse in Scotland.
    • Spoken word performances.
    • A conversation with Soma Devi, author of “A White Dove,” which tells her story of honour based oppression and her journey to safety, freedom, and peace.
    • Q&A session with Soma Devi.
  • 3:30pm to 4pm: Visit the Peace Arbour, where you can write a wish in memory of the victims of honour based violence.

Trauma-informed support staff will be on hand to provide support when needed.

Your presence will help bring awareness to this critical issue and support our efforts to remember and honour the hidden victims.

Please note the Honour Based Violence exhibition will be on until Friday, 19th July.
