Immerse yourself in tales from around the world at our lunchtime Story Café, as we rediscover the joy of being read to.
So far this year, our hearts have been aflutter over the joys and sorrows of first love, humbled by the bravery of political activists and warmed by acts of compassion. Stories and poems give us a glimpse into the lives of women across the globe, whilst helping us to make sense of our own. So why not top up your cuppa from our big, bottomless teapot, get yourself comfy and be a part of the story.
In this Story Café Special, Maggie Ritchie will be reading from and chatting about her latest novel, which draws on her experience of growing up in Zambia.
Journalist Chrissie returns to the Africa of her childhood and tracks down Evelyn, the woman at the centre of an explosive scandal involving a colonial officer and a gifted African artist. Together, they uncover the secrets that shattered a remote expatriate outpost in the Zambian bush in the 1970s. Set against a background of post-colonial race relations and political turmoil, Looking for Evelyn is richly atmospheric and blistering with tension.
