Due to unforseen circumstances, this Story Cafe Special has been cancelled – we hope to rearrange another date for later in the year.  Apologies for any inconvenience.

Who was Mary Queen of Scots? And what really motivated her? These questions have intrigued award-winning poet and author Anne Pia, inspiring her to create new work in response. Anne will explore some of the truths and myths surrounding this fiercely independent, eloquent woman who has influenced so much writing, music and art across the globe.

A Country that’s Silent: Mary the Queen of Scots, Thursday 12th March, 12.30pm to 2pm, £2/Free, Women only

Anne Pia, is an Edinburgh based Italian Scot. Born in the city, as the grandchild of Italian immigrants she was raised surrounded by the food, traditions and dialect of southern Italy. Language of my Choosing, a creative memoir published in April 2017, was shortlisted for the 2017 Saltire First Book Award and the winner of the prestigious Premio Flaiano Linguistica 2018. Ho Scelto la Mia Lingua, the Italian translation, funded by Publishing Scotland was published in Italy in December 2018.  Transitory, her first poetry collection was published in April 2018.

Be nourished by women’s words over lunchtime as we rediscover the joy of being read to. Our friendly and welcoming Story Cafés take place on Thursday afternoons and you can see all our dates this Spring here.
