Celebrate the life of housing activist Cathy McCormack. Cathy was a well-known figure in her Easterhouse community, first drawn to activism when she campaigned against the damp housing conditions in the scheme where she raised her three children.
Story Café and Open Archive: Cathy McCormack’s War Without Bullets, Thursday 1st June, 5pm to 7pm, Free, GWL
Fighting to raise awareness of how poor housing conditions could affect health she became a voice for the community she loved. That fight led her to being, amongst other things, a special advisor for the World Health Organisation Commission in Copenhagen and New York, and travelling to Nicaragua and South Africa to share Glasgow’s Stories.
Alongside a display of material from her archive which she donated in 2022, we’ll hear readings from her autobiography revealing her history, activism and motivation.
This is one of our “take part” events this Spring!
This event is part of Open the Door Festival, a year long celebration of Writers/Activists.
The event is free and open to all. To attend, please book below and we will share an email invitation with you. If you would like to make a donation to Glasgow Women’s Library, you can do so here.
