Kathryn Metcalfe, Lesley Traynor, Mairi Murphy and Morag Smith first met as a group in 2018. Intended as a chance for writers with family and caring commitments or who were unable to attend a writing group in the evenings, the group which gathered round the long table in the café of Paisley Abbey, built a rapport with one another, balanced critique with honest encouragement.

Bubbles is Laura Bissell’s compelling and honest account of her early experiences of motherhood, a journey that began in September 2018 with the birth of her daughter and which was, just over a year later, interrupted by the onset of coronavirus and the national lockdowns and global devastation that followed.

‘Human Echoes’ is a Glasgow School of Art staff research project that seeks to give voice to the lived experience of women in Glasgow who received obstetric ultrasound scans in the 1960s, when Glasgow led the world in its development. This project aims to shine a light on the stories of the women who were themselves pioneers of ultrasound.
