Why should you join us: The 7th of May is the last day of Glasgow International, the free festival of visual arts that has been taking place since the 20th of April in over 70 venues in the city. There are so many exciting, inspiring exhibitions, and we have chosen two of them to visit together.
First of all, we are going to ‘The Sticks’ – an exhibition in a tenement flat. Beatrice Loft Schulz and Laura Morrison are inviting the public to be a part of their work in progress loosely exploring the theme of shame. We will be able to interact with the work – talking, making a mosaic, playing with plasticine, read, sew and more. The artists are creating a podcast about what happens during this exhibition – so some of this will be recorded, but only if the participants (us!) are okay with it! Meet us at Central Station at 11.45am to catch the 11.51 train to Pollockshields East. Or meet us at Pollockshields East at 12pm if that works better. From the train station, it’s an 8 minute walk to the artist’s flat. Unfortunately, this exhibition is not accessible, as it is in a Glasgow tenement.
After this we will have some tea and coffee, and have a chat about what we’ve seen (or made or read!).
Then onto the next stop of the day, we head to Tramway. If you’d like to join us here we will aim to be at Tramway for about 1:45pm There are a couple of exhibitions here firstly, Kapwani Kiwanga, who uses her knowledge of social sciences and anthropology to create interesting installations, videos, and happenings. We will also have a look at Tai Shani’s immersive installation, which has been used as a set for performances throughout the festival. This piece is based around Christine de Pizan’s 1405 proto-feminist text The Book of the City of Ladies.
We would love you to join us for only one, or both parts of the trip!
