This hilly walk, based in one of Glasgow’s most fascinating Victorian garden cemeteries, looks at the stories of both the notorious and the forgotten women who are buried in these atmospheric and ethereal surroundings, with fantastic views over the city.

The route is around 1 mile/1.5km long. This includes 4 flights of steps, some with handrails and other without. We go up flights of stairs and also come down some. The route follows paths but there are a couple of sections across grass which can be uneven, wet and muddy.
This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
A week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Should you need to cancel a booking for any reason please see our Women’s Heritage Walks Cancellation Policy.
This walk takes place on tarmac roads and paths around the Necropolis and we also move off the paths onto the grass at one or two stops. There is one stop where steps are used. The Necropolis is on a steep hill and there are no banisters. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions.
