Our Women Make History project has uncovered many resourceful, radical and creative women who ought to be better known. These guided walks put them in the limelight and ensure that their contributions to Glasgow, both past and present, are celebrated, valued and more widely recognised.
Check out our full programme of Women’s Heritage Walks here.
Follow our volunteer tour guides from the former Royal Maternity Hospital on Rottenrow to the medieval-looking Mercat Cross and the Tron clock through the streets of the Merchant City. You can expect stories of scandal, vice, radicalism, regeneration and revival on this tour of one of Glasgow’s cosmopolitan hubs.
This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
A week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Should you need to cancel a booking for any reason please see our Women’s Heritage Walks Cancellation Policy. Should the event be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions tickets will be refunded in full.
This walk takes place on pavements around Merchant City. Our guides are happy to recommend and accompany attendees on different flatter routes to each stop, where possible. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions.
Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
