Meet the trailblazing women who made the Merchant City and walk with us as we reveal the hidden histories and unsung contributions of the women who shaped the area.

Let us introduce you to formidable midwives, ‘the Scots Scarlet Pimpernel’ Jenny Patrick, and a hatchet-wielding temperance campaigner from Kentucky known as ‘the bar-room smasher’. Our Merchant City Women’s Heritage Walk digs deeper into the lives of the barnstormers and businesswomen, reporters and radicals who built this part of Glasgow with their determination, talent and skill.

“This walk is a great way to see the city in a new light. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming”. – Heritage Walk Participant

Meeting Point: Under the main archway of the Old Rottenrow Maternity Hospital, corner of Rottenrow and North Portland St. Please do not arrive without having booked your place in advance as tour guides are not able to take payment, and the walk may be full. Bookings close on the Thursday prior to the women’s heritage walk.
