Discover some of the fascinating materials from Glasgow Women’s Library’s unique archive and use them as inspiration in an exciting craft workshop.
Wednesday 5th November, 2pm-5pm
Wednesday 19th November, 2pm-5pm
Over the course of the two workshops you will start by exploring the archive and end up with a collaborative artwork. Using the creative technique of Appliqué, which is a wonderful technique to use to tell stories with text and images, we will create a banner for the March of Women project.
Come and create a conversation as well as something beautiful, spend time with the suffragettes and learn new skills. No experience or artistic flair required! All materials will be provided.
These workshops are part of our March of Women programme of events.
This event costs £3.00 full price: select the number of tickets you wish to book below, or come in to the Library to book. We offer subsidised and/or free places for students, people on a low income, unemployed or those in receipt of benefit and Friends of GWL. If you are eligible for a free place click here or call us on 0141 550 2267 to book.
March of Women is a community arts project which will bring together the women and families of Glasgow through a dramatic celebration of local history and social space. This project is a partnership between Royal Conservatoire Scotland and Glasgow Women’s Library funded by Creative Scotland.
The project takes its inspiration from A Pageant of Great Women by Cicely Hamilton, performed and toured in 1909. The play was radical due its politics and the sheer number of people involved since the cast was mostly recruited from the local female population.
You can be involved with March of Women in many different ways:
Tweet your images! We are asking what happens When Women get together and effect change.
Join a workshop. We will be holding a range of workshops, including research, creative writing, performance and more!
Be part of the performance. Give voice to an inspirational Scottish woman.
Volunteer with us. Help us engage women in the project and spread the word about what we do.
Contact us on 0141 550 2267 or email info@womenslibrary.org.uk if you would like to be involved with this project, and check our Events Calendar for programmed March of Women activities.
This project is supported by Creative Scotland.
