Irish Women of Our Past: Legacy of the Irish Migrant Woman

Tuesday, 25th September, 2012, 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Free

Irish Women of Our Past Following on from the “My Glasgow Granny from Donegal” workshops back in March, artist-researcher Rachael Flynn is continuing to develop connections with those who have female relatives in their past who emigrated from Ireland.

The work she makes is a response to both her grandmother’s stories and the social histories of the various women who made similar journeys.

She will be holding three separate thematic events in which you are welcome to come along and share stories of Irish mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers, aunts, cousins…

What These Women Left Behind: Wednesday 19th September, 6pm

Legacy of the Irish Migrant Woman: Tuesday 25th September, 6pm

Passing Down a Sense of Irishness: Tuesday 2nd October, 6pm

These sessions are an opportunity to recognise and pay honour the women who faced vast challenges and obstacles in order to shape their own futures.

Rachael is working towards a sculptural installation to be held in mid-October at Film City, Glasgow. The one-off evening event will be documented and available to view online. There is more information on the project on the Irish Women of Our Past website and twitter.
