The Gateways, a bohemian private members club – and hotbed of lesbian night life – opened in 1945 in the basement of a shop in the heart of Chelsea and thrived until 1985.

Join GWL’s Sue John in conversation with Rachel Jury, Artistic Director of conFAB, in advance of the world premiere theatre production of ‘The Gates: Love, Liberation and Respect’ (a joint conFAB and Dance HQ production).
Glasgow Women’s Library houses the UK’s National Lesbian Archive Collection and this is a chance to look at some rare post-war materials, find out more about the central role of the Gateways Club in lesbian culture and hear about conFAB’s production: “West Side Story meets Cabaret meets Chicago,a passionate extravaganza of 1950s Blues, Jazz, and Gospel”.
