This textiles workshop, facilitated by interdisciplinary artist Zana Araki, will explore sense-led making using scent, tactility and sound elements to express, soothe and promote an open dialogue for mental and physical wellbeing.
Zana will share research from the GWL archive which highlights the importance of textiles as a medium for activism and resistance, used to subvert and connect. This workshop is inspired by the Gathering Stitch exhibition and will take place among the work.
Gathering Stitch is a celebration of ways that women can use textiles to speak, protest and build community! The exhibition showcases a beautiful new textile piece made by survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse, alongside examples of women’s textiles from our archives.
More information about the exhibition and the launch on Thursday 13th October.
This is one of our ‘Take Part’ events this autumn! (‘Attend’ events mean you can listen or look in and enjoy the event with no pressure to join in, though there will likely be opportunities to chat too! ‘Take Part’ events involve a bit more activity or participation on your part, you are of course still welcome to do so as little or as much as you would like to.)
This workshop is open to members of the public of all genders and there will not be a support worker present. If survivors feel comfortable with this setting, they are welcome to attend. If survivors are looking for a more focussed environment with a support worker in attendance they should look out for future Survivor Arts Community workshops.
The event is free and for open to all. To attend, please book below and we will share an email invitation with you. If you would like to make a donation to Glasgow Women’s Library, you can do so here.
There is financial support for childcare and travel costs for this workshop so please do let us know if you would like this provided by emailing info@womenslibrary.org.uk
Glasgow Women’s Library is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to the first floor and the Mezzanine Floor.
