As spring returns, so do our ever-popular women’s heritage walks. Led by our volunteer tour guides, they show Glasgow’s neighbourhoods in a new light, making visible the hidden and overlooked contributions women have made to the city.
Pick up a Stamp as you Stomp loyalty card, do all 6 of our walks and get a very special Women Make history treat! Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
From the bustle of Sauchiehall Street to quiet and leafy back streets, this bohemian enclave is full of surprises and has been home to many remarkable women who have made Garnethill one of the most exciting cultural and multicultural hotspots in Glasgow.
“I’m from Garnethill and I learned loads about my home ground. [The walk] was very informative and well led.” – Heritage walk attendee

Meeting Point: We meet outside the CCA on Sauchiehall Street. Please do not arrive without having booked your place in advance as tour guides are not able to take payment, and the walk may be full. Bookings close on the Friday prior to the women’s heritage walk.
As of Wednesday 18th March, Glasgow Women’s Library is closed until further notice. We believe that closing our doors is the best way to slow the spread of Covid-19. We are no longer taking bookings for events in our Spring programme, in the understanding that they may not go ahead. If you can check in at the end of April for updates on our website and social media, or by email, please do so. You can find more information on our response to Covid-19 here.
This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
The week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Should you need to cancel a booking for any reason please see our Women’s Heritage Walks Cancellation Policy.
This walk takes place on pavements around Garnethill and also crosses Garnethill Park where there are steps. This is a hilly area and some sections are steep whilst not all pavements have banisters. Our guides are happy to recommend and accompany attendees on different flatter routes to each stop, where possible. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions.
Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
