This guided walk will focus on some of the achievements and struggles of the industrious and resourceful women of Glasgow’s East End, and the radical nature of the area which gave birth to them. You’ll learn about the women of the Templeton factory, the suffragettes, the brazen women of Glasgow Green, Battling Betty, the woman who set up the Barras and many, many more!
This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
A week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Should you need to cancel a booking for any reason please see our Women’s Heritage Walks Cancellation Policy.
The majority of the route is on wide even pavements by main roads, or flat paths through Glasgow Green. The walk is at a gentle pace and a flat route, led by GWL tour guides with stops all along the way to find out about women’s heritage in the East End.
The walking tour starts and ends at GWL where there are toilets, wheelchair accessible toilets, and seating.

Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
Unfortunately we can only accept support dogs on the walk.
