Warm up over a cuppa at our Story Café this autumn.
Rediscover the joy of being read to as we explore tales of love, longing and what it is to be human, by the best women writers world-wide. So far this year we’ve been intrigued by strangers on trains, bewitched by selkies and fallen in love with kind-hearted crooks.
Three times finalist and previous winner of our Bold Types creative writing competition, Ethyl Smith is now a highly acclaimed debut novelist and will enthrall us with a reading from her book, Changed Times. Set in tumultuous 17th century Scotland, and written with a fine ear for Scots dialect, Changed Times brings to life the rebellion of the Covenanters, evoking a time in Scottish history where greed, power, and religion created a dangerous mix.
Our Story Café Specials are an intimate way of hearing some of the freshest voices from Scottish writing. Specials this Autumn are: Sue Reid Sexton on Thursday 22nd September, Banned Books Week on Thursday 29th September, Grey Hen Press on Thursday 6th October, Chitra Ramaswamy on Thursday 27th October, and Ethyl Smith on Thursday 24th November.
