Ajay Close is the latest fantastic writer to pay a visit to GWL’s famed Story Café on Thursday 24th March.
Ajay will read from and talk about her latest book, A Petrol Scented Spring, a timely exploration of the heroic struggles of the Scottish Suffragettes held in Perth Prison and their treatment at the hands of ruthless prison doctor Hugh Ferguson Watson.
‘Ajay Close has hit on a real-life story that may prove to be one of the gems of the year.’ – The Guardian
Impressing readers and critics alike, this is a truly riveting read, a novel of repression, jealousy and love, and the struggle for women’s emancipation. Ajay offers a fascinating insight into the real women on the front line in the fight for women’s rights in Scotland and reminds us of the incredible, extraordinary bravery of ‘ordinary’ women.
We’ve read about barefoot, pioneering climbers in Snowdonia, globe-trotting, fearless matriarchs from India, and fabled heroines on dangerous quests in Afghanistan. Who knows where our Story Café and its wild and wonderful literary women will take us next?
