Steps Towards Social Science and Care: Block 2

Are you looking for a way back into education but don’t know where to start? Want to study interesting subjects in a friendly, women only environment? Great news! Stow College are returning to Glasgow Women’s Library!

The Steps Towards Social Science and Care course offers the chance to move on to further study in Women’s Studies, Social Sciences or Social Care. It could be a route into employment – or just the chance to try something different and meet some new people.

Info Session: Wednesday 22 September at 1pm
Course Begins: Wednesday 29 September at 1pm.
The course then runs on Wednesdays and Fridays 1pm to 3.30pm in 2 blocks of 6 weeks.

Block One: Social Science
Starts Wednesday 29 September
1.   How did we get here?
2.   Child development
3.   Families
4.   Women in the home
5.   Housing and
6.   Campaigning Women

Block Two: Social Care
Starts Wednesday 10 November
1.   What is health?
2.   Poverty and health
3    It’s All in the Mind
4.   Trashing the mags
5.   Breaking the rules
6.   Are we equal now?

  • No formal qualifications required
  • No fees if you’re on benefits or a low income – help may also be available with childcare and travel expenses

    • Study an interesting and unique course in a friendly, supportive environment.

    Come along to the Info Session Wednesday 22 September 2010 at 1pm in Glasgow Women’s Library on Berkeley Street.

    Don’t worry if it’s been a while since you were last in education – the course is designed for women who have few or no formal qualifications, and there is plenty of help from GWL with study skills.

    Dear GWL team,

    May I wish you well in the exciting move! I was particularly interested in the ‘Steps Towards Social Care’ course for women wanting to explore further education pathways. Can I help in any way? As a mature student, I followed this path into a degree taken in the evenings – B.A (Hons) Cultural Studies and with the guidance of my tutor, applied to Oxford University -MSt Womens Studies, graduating in 2007.
