I spent a windswept afternoon on a hilltop in Renfrewshire on Wednesday 23rd June completing the Lapwing Lodge assault course. All in a days work, naturally – perhaps in the “any other duties” part of my job description! A group of girls from Glenburn in Paisley have been working with GWL as part of the national lifelong learning programme in partnership with Renfrewshire Libraries.
To raise money for summer activities, the girls suggested we raise sponsorship. The assault course was the first – and hopefully the most energetic – of their ideas. Everyone completed the course, (some several times over!) and we made over £70.00 in sponsorship money. The girls have been doing creative writing and environmental activities and have just completed a series of performance workshops with Anita Govan.
They are now planning an event for friends, family and staff from local organisations where they will perform poetry and showcase the work and activities they have been involved in.
