Although I am a Glasgewian however I currently reside in Paisley. Would it be possible for me to participate in the ‘outings’ (38 July & 3 Aug) and and the workshop on Women and Politics. If this possible can you tell me costs involved please. Thank you

I’d like to say that its good to see you have so many events on, but it might be better if the trips were not necessarily based in the city itself.

Sometimes its nice to get out of Glasgow, and see other places – i.e. Helensburgh, Balloch, or other half hour train journeys in and around Glasgow. Even Mugdock or Pollok Park, at least you feel like your in the countryside…..

Maybe I say that, because it can be good to escape from the buzz of city life, ie the noise of the traffic, and sirens etc.

One last query I’d ask is if you have any plans in future for self defence classes, or first aid ?
And, as I haven’t been along for ages, what kind of informal social events do you run in the library ? Alot to ask, I know. Thankyou ;-)

Thank you for your comment. I think it would be a great idea to organise outings out of the hustle and bustle of Glasgow City Centre. However, for the summer programme, we wanted to organise outings that were of walking distance from the Glasgow Women’s Library. For future outings we will organise to go somewhere further out of city centre. Thank you again for your suggestions, I will keep them in mind.

We organised self defence classes running last year which went very well. Unfortunately we do not have any organised this year, however if you check with women’s aid organisations around Glasgow then I am sure you will come across something. Another organisation I came across was Venus Self Defence.

As part of the summer programme, we are facilitating Arts and Crafts sessions. Women who have come along so far have enjoyed learning artistic techniques to make hand made cards and scrapbooks over tea’s coffee’s, cakes and a good banter!

Other than this we have a number of events and workshops running throughout the year ranging from Women’s Heritage Walking Tours, Film screenings & discussions, creative writing and more. Please keep checking the calendar for a list of upcoming events.
