Openings Courses

The deadline for this set of Openings courses has now passed, but please check the Events Calendar for future opportunities.

Studying an Openings course will give you the chance to try out Open University supported study and discover its qualities for yourself. You can work on your study skills such as essay-writing, planning your time and taking notes, with support from Glasgow Women’s Library staff. The courses will help build up your confidence, get a taste of your chosen subject and decide what you want to study in the future. Openings courses are also an ideal way of preparing yourself for undergraduate study with the Open University.

There are no examinations and the courses are specifically designed to give you a gradual introduction to the subject and to the world of studying. If you’re worried about your ability, your spelling, punctuation or essay writing, or if you just aren’t sure if you’re up to it, Openings courses are the perfect place to start.

Courses include: Introducing Environment, Learning to Change, Making sense of the arts, Starting with law, Starting with maths, Starting with psychology, Understanding children, Understanding health, Understanding management, Understanding society and Exploring sport on-line.

Registration must be received by Thursday 7 May 2009

The 16-20 week courses start June 2009. Following presentations of the courses will be in September and November 2009.
