Well, how exciting. Our old mucker Cathy Wilkes has been nominated for this year’s Turner Prize. WELL DONE Cathy! We are so thrilled for Cathy and wish her good luck in what will be a tough competition this year, with women well represented. Cathy has been a good friend of GWL for many years – she was involved in Women in Profile (from where GWL sprang) from 1988 (the Herald recently quotes her as having helped found GWL which isn’t strictly true) and she greatly contributed to the work of WIP before, during and after Glasgow’s European Year of Culture in 1990. She’s a great talent and I am looking forward to seeing her work in London’s Tate Gallery in October. Bring on all the controversy! Cathy’s work will stand up for itself, so go girl and just enjoy this ride!
