Come one, come all in support of GWL!

We are in the process of collating letters of support to accompany our application for funding to the Heritage Lottery Fund, which, if successful, will create a dedicated archive room and display facilities to the highest standards, and will also create new and exciting educational, outreach and volunteering opportunities in our new Mitchell Library home in 2009.

Our ‘call for support’ has certainly been responded to very positively, and the number and content of the letters received is overwhelming. National institutions, grass roots community groups, councillors, local authority departments, MSPs, women’s organisations, academic institutions, and our own dear members, donors, learners and supporters are all sending in letters – it’s like receiving fan mail on a daily basis.

The letters remind me that we are loved and valued by such a wide range of people, and that thousands of women (and men too) have benefitted so much from what we have worked tirelessly to build for the past 16 years – for the most part in unpaid capacities.

Sometimes, on the occasions that we don’t get things quite right, we can feel a bit beleaguered and wonder if it has all been worth it, but the responses say it all, and have certainly put joy in my heart and a smile on my face, boosting morale and sending surges of energy throughout our busy team.

It’s not too late to send in your letters and statements of support – we’ll be collecting them until mid November, so please, whether you are an individual or a representative of a group or organisation, write to us to support our application. Tell us your stories of using GWL! All the details are on the website. (or at least will be by the end of today, I hope!)

Help to get us to the Mitchell – we can’t do it without you!
