Tears and florentines

How times flies when you’re having fun at GWL. It doesn’t seem so long ago that I was telling everyone that I was 4 months pregnant, and now here I am, having an emotional last day at work before I finish up for maternity leave.

We’ve just had a lovely, belt-busting pot-luck lunch as a (belated) farewell to Gen, who finished at the library a few weeks ago, and for my last day. Our potlucks just get better and better. Gen spoiled us with her fabulous falafels, Helen brought beautiful, freshly made salsa and Adele made the most amazing florentines. Laura admirably made sure we had a balanced meal by bringing along a gorgeous fruit salad. Laine turned up just in time to ask us lots of questions about the food (‘What are those wee green things?’ ‘Vine leaves, Laine…’). As if we weren’t spoiled enough by all this food, Gen and I were given some really lovely gifts and cards, which inevitably made me cry and rendered me speechless (previously unheard of).

What will I do without my daily fix of these wonderful women, who love to eat, drink tea (by the gallon) and be merry, and who make me feel so lucky to have landed on my feet in the best job ever? I just love it here, and as much as I’m excited about becoming a mum, I can’t imagine waking up on Monday morning and not coming into work to see everyone’s lovely faces and to hear about all the exciting things that are going on in the library. Be warned – I’m probably going to find lots of excuses to pop in and annoy everyone.

Anyway, I’m going to finish now because I’m finding it hard to write this without becoming all tearful again, and I need to keep up my stern, librarian image that I’ve spent months honing to perfection :-)

Thanks so much to you all for being so wonderful. I’ll miss you all far too much.

I’m looking forward to bringing my bambino in to introduce him or her to the wonderful world that is GWL.

Lots of love
