Trying to get this McFadden & Whitehead disco classic adopted as the GWL theme tune but no luck so far! Anyway “final move†day has dawned (a day late right enough but that’s another story). It’s been a long time coming.
Things I’ll miss about 109 Trongate?
The wood burning stove (but not the tons of logs we had to load into the lift).
The completely lack of “library ssshhhh†about the place. (The buzz will be back in Parnie Street when we have events and courses but it won’t be quite the same until we’re back to drop-in mode in the Mitchell).
All the little nooks and crannies where you can hide away when you need to concentrate (but I’m sure there will be a few different ones in Parnie Street).
The books!!!
Things I won’t miss about 109 Trongate?
The lane with all its needles and bodily functions underfoot.
The (in)famous ears.
The leaky roof and 100% humidity we’ve had on occasions over the last couple of weeks.
The all pervasive aroma of damp that hits you when you walk in.
The stairs!!
Things we’ll be taking with us?
When we first started to discuss what we hoped for in our ultimate new space (the Mitchell) we were set a task to choose some things we liked about 109 Trongate and would want to take with us. My number one choice was the people – staff, volunteers, members/supporters, learners, service users (and I would have to add Brian to the list although he might not be quite so easy to smuggle in to our new incarnation!). A more fantastic, fun, inspirational, supportive bunch of people you could not wish to meet. Of course the great thing about people is it doesn’t matter what building you’re in – you can take them along with you. GWL could be based on a desert island and it would still be a great place to spend your time.
Come to think of it …. sea, sand, sunshine – how about I set up an Indian Ocean branch of GWL?!
Well – a girl can dream!
