The Sharing Heritage lottery funded project, Women Making History in West Dunbartonshire, reaches it’s conclusion with launch parties, workshops and exhibitions throughout August, with the chance to view the memory box developed by the group which celebrates women’s lives in West Dunbartonshire in the 50s and 60s and aims to ensure that local women’s history, and its importance in shaping our heritage is recognised and preserved.

Zines are small self-made publications and can be about anything - from what you did last week, the music or art you like or your personal, political and social life and have a long history of empowering women and other minority groups, enabling them to have a voice away from mainstream media. Join us for tea, coffee, biscuits and informal discussion on local women from Lennoxtown or Milton of Campsie and throughout East Dunbartonshire. Who are the women that you most remember and why? Where did they live and what did they do? How are they remembered? From the well-known to unsung heroines, this friendly, social and informal event will include short talks, a fun women’s quiz, discussion and hands on activities to give you an introduction to Glasgow Women’s Library and some of the women’s heritage projects that are happening across Scotland, including the new interactive Women of Scotland website that maps monuments to women across Scotland.
For all those budding poets, this is a chance to strut your stuff, or just come along and listen to some warm, wild and witty women competing to win the title of Harpies Fechters and Quines Poetry Slam Champion. All styles of poetry welcome. Hosted by Anita Govan. Numbers for this event are limited and it is essential to book in advance through Glasgow Women’s Library if you would like to perform in the slam.
