This book celebrates the pioneers who helped create neo-natal and midwifery services in Aberdeen and contains a wealth of memories and tales from personal experience. From a local “howdie” (midwife) accused of witchcraft in 1597 to Maggie Myles who create the definitive textbook for midwifery, Lesley Dunbar, Alison MCCall and Fiona Rennie will share their journey in researching and discovering the history of maternity services and share some of those precious stories.

From campaigning for decent housing to taking on governments, this Story Café celebrates the women who have led lives of activism for the sake of their communities and for their own rights.
Our first Herland in years and what better way to mark its return than with a celebration of all the big and little ways we live our lives in protest. Back by popular demand, our legendary accessible salon night will have at its centre Jackie Kay's incredible poem 'A Life in Protest'.
