This exhibition of portraits, created by a group of young Scottish women, explores self-expression through photography. Inspired by an exhibition of Jo Spence’s work at Still’s Gallery in Edinburgh, the group created characters to tell their own stories, drawing from personal experience, role models and fictional personalities.
Women made many valuable contributions to education in the 18th century including working as teachers, governesses and instructing their younger siblings, yet their contributions are frequently overlooked. This ensemble of talks and music highlights key components of women’s education in the arts during this period.
