Women are under represented on Wikipedia and most Wikipedia editors are men. We’re open to redress this a little by hosting a Wikipedia Editathon which will introduce you to editing Wikipedia. We will use our 21 Revolutions publication as a starting point, adding or improving articles about the artists and writers involved, and taking inspiration from some materials from our museum and archive collections such as badges, posters, Suffragette memorabilia, or magazines.
Sara Thomas, Wikimedian in Residence at Museums Galleries Scotland, will lead the session and guide you through the Visual Editor which apparently is no harder to use that Microsoft Word!
The session will start with an introduction to Wikipedia, the gender gap, and the Visual Editor.
After lunch (which we will provide) there will be plenty of time to give editing a go and Sara will be on hand to help.
Here is more information about what to expect from the session.
The event is free to attend. Please book below (you will be taken through the shopping cart but no charge will be made) or you can call us on 0141 550 2267. If you have booked a place and are no longer able to attend please let us know so that we can make your place available to someone else.
